How it works

1. Tell us your story. Pick 10 questions from our list, or write your own, and type the answers.
2. Add a photo of you both. We remove the background and turn it into line art for you, so there's nothing to edit.
3. Approve your proof. We email you a proof within 24 hours. Nothing is engraved until you reply APPROVED.

The details

• A4 portrait board, 21 × 29.7 cm, cut from 3 mm pale birch plywood.
• Front: your line-art portrait in an oval, your names in flowing script, an optional line such as "est. 2021", then the crossword and its Across and Down clues.
• Back: the engraved answer key, with your names and date.
• Classic romantic design: script names, elegant serif clues, a fine double border and a little heart.
• Two laser-cut holes, with natural jute twine included for hanging.
• Arrives gift-ready in a kraft box.

Each board is made to order. It's engraved and dispatched within 3–5 working days of you approving your proof, with free UK tracked delivery.

Personalised just for you

Because every board is made to your own words and photo, it can't be cancelled or returned for a change of mind once you've approved your proof. If it arrives faulty or damaged, we'll put it right. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.

Questions

What if my answer doesn't fit?
Each answer must be one word of 3–12 letters. We remove spaces and symbols, so "fish and chips" becomes FISHANDCHIPS. Very occasionally a set of answers won't link together in the grid. If that happens, we'll suggest a swap on your proof before anything is engraved.

Can I write my own questions?
Yes. Choose "Write my own…" in any clue slot and type a clue of up to 30 characters. Write it as a clue, don't put the answer in it, and make every answer different. We may shorten a clue slightly to fit, and you'll see the final wording on your proof.

What photo works best?
A clear, well-lit photo of just the two of you, with faces visible and looking towards the camera. Head and shoulders is ideal. Please avoid sunglasses, group shots and heavy filters. You'll see the line-art version on your proof.

Can I return it?
As it's personalised to your specification, it's exempt from the 14-day cancellation right, so we can't accept change-of-mind returns. If anything arrives faulty or damaged, contact us and we'll replace it. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Can I see it before it's made?
Always. We email a proof within 24 hours of your order and only start engraving when you reply APPROVED. Want a change? Just reply with it and we'll send a new proof.

What's the difference between the two styles?
Solve it has a blank grid and comes with a gold paint pen, so your partner can solve their own story. Keepsake has the answers already engraved, ready to display. Both have the answer key engraved on the back.

How do I hang it?
It has two laser-cut holes, and we include natural jute twine. Simply thread, knot and hang.

When will it arrive?
Allow up to 24 hours for your proof, 3–5 working days from approval to dispatch, then Royal Mail Tracked delivery. Ordering for Christmas? Please order and approve your proof by 5 December.
